A Grand Slam puts Renegades behind, Lose to Bombers 6-2

 June 13, 2021 Renegades v. Bombers Recap

Sunday night was the first game of a six-game homestand for the Jefferson City Renegades, and the team faced off against the Sedalia Bombers to kick off the busy week.

The first inning began off rather uneventful, as strong defenses on both sides recorded three up, three down.

In the top of the second inning, however, things took a turn for the worse for the Renegades. A series of singles and a walk pulled in one run for the Bombers and left the bases loaded for Sedalia’s Gideon Antel, who stepped up to the plate and knocked a grand slam over the fence off of Renegades starting pitcher Trenton Morrow.

Jefferson City was unable to answer in the bottom of the second and, following a pitching substitution in which Morrow was replaced by Braydon Boyer, the third inning began with a score of 5-0.

With the start of the third, it seemed as though the second inning had never happened. Both defenses returned to the field just as strong as in the first inning, and the two teams repeatedly kept their opponent from crossing the plate.

Five scoreless innings ensued.

Finally, in the bottom of the eighth, the Renegades mustered a bit of an offensive comeback. Singles from Ale Claro and Caden Diel, followed by a double from Kolin Demel, brought Claro home. Then, a sacrifice fly from Kaden Helsel to centerfield would score Diel, pulling in a second run for the team.

This offensive burst was just too little, too late for Jefferson City, however, and the Bombers put up another run before holding the Renegades scoreless once again in the ninth inning.

The teams left the field with a final score of 6-2.

Continuing their homestand, Jefferson City will compete against the Chillicothe Mudcats at 7 p.m. Monday at Vivion Field.
