Renegades give up Grand Slam, Fall to Griffons 5-2

 June 9, 2021 Renegades v. Griffons Recap

Wednesday night marked the third outing between the Jefferson City Renegades and the Nevada Griffons, and with each team having one win against the other, it was a battle to secure the winning record.

The offense began early for the Renegades in the bottom of the first. A walk for Caden Diel, followed by a hit by pitch for Brady Voss and a fielder’s choice for Hamilton Anderson, brought Diel home and put the Renegades up, 1-0.

A scoreless second inning seemed to indicate that Jefferson City would be easily able to hold its lead, however the Griffons challenged this by pulling in a run in the top of the third to tie the game.

Though unable to score in the bottom of the third, a solo homerun from Carter Mize in the bottom of the fourth allowed the Renegades to reclaim their lead, 2-1.

The score would remain the same until the top of the seventh inning, when Renegades starting pitcher Ethan Osborne would be replaced by Kaden Helsel. A walk, a hit by pitch, and a single loaded the bases for Nevada’s Alec Telles, who smashed a grand slam to gain four additional runs for the Griffons.

While a pitching change in the top of the eighth, Austin Brewer for Helsel, would hold Nevada scoreless the rest of the night, the Jefferson City offense repeatedly failed to mount any sort of a comeback.

At the end of all nine innings, the Renegades fell to the Griffons by a score of 5-2.

Jefferson City will return to Vivion Field at 7 p.m. Friday to compete against the Jefferson City Legends, a team of previous Renegades.
